arrived at Raiatea on Sunday morning...another one of those early morning snorkel tours ...this was
supposed to be a 'drift snorkel' between two small islands ( motu's) ...
the drift was way too fast among low lying coral that was in the danger
zone with gale wind conditions up to 40 mph---- our friend Ruth had to be
rescued by the two guides toward the end of the first drift-- she almost
drowned and sat out the rest of the snorkel as we did..she is
recovering and doing okay so far.... this one should have been cancelled
especially with the long boat ride back across the inlet... a bust...
we did find out that this place doesn't compare with snorkeling in the
Caribbean especially in Bonaire.. not even close... wrote the day off
as it was a Sunday with most stores closed and winds continued thruout
most of the day... the winds subsided in late afternoon as we were setting sail for tomorrow's port--Papeete, Tahiti..we skipped the show and went to 80's Trivia in the
Crows Nest
