our stay overnite in Honolulu continues as we took a tour to the North
Shore...just 4 couples in a van .. like a private tour with Lance a
native Hawaiian guide... stopped at the Byodo-In Temple grounds on the way along with a
number of beaches and lookout points for some pics... a lunch stop at
Fumis one of the many 'shrimp shacks' on the north shore.. tempura
shrimp.. coconut shrimp topped off with a shaved ice flavored snow
cone--Hawaii's version of snow..another longer stop at Sunset Beach's
Turtle Cove that just happened to have a Surfin Contest going on at the
time.. a lot of 'wow waves ' and surfers doing their thing... quite
impressive... a couple of more stops at beaches as we headed toward the
Dole Pineapple plantation that was the tourist trap off the day with
their gift shop... all in all a great tour with plenty of photo-ops
along the way thruout the day... after getting back to the ship we
decided to do the BBQ by the Lido pool for dinner with Frank Linda and
Big Al.. .. we all met later on in the Crows Nest for Big Band Trivia..
Ruth played also along with another couple.. Frank and I sat it out and
played on our own team--the Stud-Muffins.. we tied for 3rd place.. not
bad for guessing most of the answers.. we head on over to the big
island--Hawaii --and a stop in Hilo for tomorrow
BTW... most pics were taken with my 60d 15-85 lens for the wide angle shots.. the surfers were well out of normal range and were shot with my SX50hs 50x optical zoom 1200 mm max all handheld... as were the Paragliders..all pics on the blog are unedited as-is from the cameras
