a crazy sky at sunrise

showers moving in mainly from offshore at the sunrise hour.. amazing how the sun somehow peeked thru..

another nice sunrise

on this early morning at the beach at 40th street.. more debris floating up on the sand.. for a change playing around with my older 18-200 lens -- have to take it with me to Europe next week-- flying, so have to consolidate the photog stuff.. normally I would take 3 or 4 lenses.. such is life

finally .. back on the beach

a few snaps while checking out the beach for the first time since back home after the storm.. high tide rolling in made for a shorter beach for all the regular dogwalkers ..some debris on the beach but not too bad..

a look over the Dunes
a lot of 'beer foam'
more suds

lots of brackish water from the flooding

mullet minnows in the surf

coffee colored brackish water from the flooded rivers

it's a cleanup kinda day

started the cleanup around the yard at 7am.. a few breaks and lunch and a drive to a couple of local stores and it was back to the grind--which overall was not bad.. finished up late afternoon and a rain shower cleaned things off.... Aspirin..Ibuprophen and Aleve are now my good friends --sore sore muscles  :)

back on the road again

decided thart today was the best day to make the drive back home.. with Interstate 95 closed due to flooding in most of North Carolina had to plan the detour..

we left our nephew's house on Long Island at 330am this morning..an e-z drive on our regular route south until we had to detour from our standard route that we always take and head south and west before coming back east and north ..

we arrived home without too many problems-- arrival time at the house 535pm..a 14 hour drive that normally takes us 11.5 hours

not as much debris as I thought there would be so cleanup will be relatively e-z

Getting ready..well almost

one must adapt to the Long Island, NY kinda way--temporarily of course ... still here.. every early morning just after 6am or so for the past 11 days drive over to Starbucks in nearby Glen Cove with my nephew and his lil' dood..  first time I did Starbucks in nearly 20 years after a buddy & I got sick from a 'bad cup' of their java----it must be the NY Bagels that keep it good up here-- and oh yeah it's always ' black no moo-- no shooo' :)

a few from this early morning

Getting close to heading home..plan is for one more day here in NY..  mucho many roads still closed in NC on the trip back ..one must adapt..

still here

a quiet rainy rainy rainy day on Long Island.. just what I wanted to see more rain...

looks like NO damage at the house..a  friend who stayed for the storm checked our house for us and our Webcams came back online yesterday.. all looks a-okay... very little debris also-- this is good.. still waiting the floods out around the rest of NC before we attempt to head home

Sunday, September 16, 2018

all roads flooded in North Carolina

so we remain in NY as the flooding rages on thruout North Carolina and South Carolina.. looks like we'll be up here about another week before we can head south for the long drive home

waiting the storm out--in New York

watching the storm updates from Hurricane Florence about our home area from our nephew's house on Long Island..  looks like the area north of us is taking a pounding more so from the huge amount of rain causing severe flooding thruout North Carolina ..the storm is moving very slowly as it makes its way toward landfall near Wilmington NC as of 5am a little while ago

hoping for the best as we continue to monitor its progress

NEVER FORGET

for those lost their lives this day in 2001 prayers for their families and loved ones

*********

a few  pics from our drive north  to our nephew's house in Upper Brookville on Long Island.he kept on calling  as we avoid the path of Hurricane Florence due to make landfall late Thursday nite into Friday morning  -- Category 4 at 140 mph as of right now with Wilmington N C as the target about 45 miles to our north..

it's getting close but you'd never know it

At the beach  before sunrise .. what hurricane.. pretty flat with a few rollers breaking in the surf.. lots of clouds building.. 'the calm before the storm'.. sunny and mid 80's all day today.. a pretty day overall

here's the latest 5PM National Hurricane center Advisory on Hurricane Florence ..still 1000 miles east and SSE of Bermuda but moving at 13mph 140mph and heading directly at us at the North Carolina-South Carolina state border

Updated Florence Advisory link

heading out in the early AM-- around 3 to 4am .. never stay for a Cat 4-- never so says that wise man of men Jack Hexter who stayed during Andrew in Homestead, Florida

Florence-- not a nice 'lady'

rain rain go away and take Florence with you... skipped going on to the beach this early morning with storms up/down the coast.. got a lil' wet as I 'wet a line' at the ICW boat landing on the 'Mini-me pier'.. a few hits-- a lil' bit of action.. no takers on a topwater-- always havin' fun with it getting 'crashed' especially with a dropping barometer

Hurricane Florence is heading right at us  Hurricane Florence Forecast link

3 weeks to go from today and we're outta here
