arrival in our last port of call .. Funchal, Madeira, Portugal.. super island.. 70* and sunny..sunny..sunny.. been here 5x before over the past 8 years.. love it here..just a beautiful place .. off the ship by 9am.. shuttle-bus into downtown.. then a walk along harbor-walk to the Cable Car up to Monte.. .. great views.. back down into town before noon.. into the Mercado for a looky-see--always fun.. stopped at our favorite local cafe for a light lunch as we continued our walk thru town.... back on the ship by 245pm as we get ready to leave here at 4pm on our 'back across the BIG POND sail' to Ft Lauderdale.. a 7.5 day sail.. after a day layover in Ft Lauderdale we board Holland America's Koningsdam... meeting our friends Margaret and Peter from the UK onboard :)
4pm... the long journey back across 'the Big Pond' started as we left our berth in Funchal late this afternoon heading westbound 3313 nautical-miles over the next 7.5 days toward our next sighting of land in Port Everglades-Ft Lauderdale.. forecast is for smooth seas and nice weather according to the Captain-- we shall see.. we've done the crossing 14x in the past 8 years..mark this one #15
